History of Regenerative Medicine: A Review

Abstract

Regenerative medicine, an interdisciplinary field at the intersection of biology, engineering, and 
medicine, focuses on the regeneration or replacement of damaged tissues and organs using cellular 
therapies, gene editing, and tissue engineering. This review traces the historical development of 
regenerative medicine, from its early origins in ancient healing practices to its present-day 
advances in stem cell research, gene therapy, and tissue engineering. We examine key milestones, 
breakthroughs, and challenges, providing a comprehensive understanding of how regenerative 
medicine has evolved into a promising medical frontier, with the potential to revolutionize 
treatments for a range of previously incurable diseases.
