Author Guidelines

These guidelines apply to manuscripts submitted to International Journal of Zoological Sciences. Check first that your work fits the journal's Aims and Scope.

Before you submit

  • The manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere and is not under review at another journal.
  • All authors have read and approved the submitted version and agree to its submission.
  • Any study involving people or animals has ethics approval, and consent where it applies.

Article types

  • Research articles reporting original results
  • Review articles of about 3,000 words, not counting the abstract and references
  • Case-based reports and technical notes
  • Short communications

Preparing the manuscript

  • Write in clear English and submit a Microsoft Word file.
  • Use Times New Roman, 12 point, with 1.5 line spacing and margins of 1 inch on all sides.
  • Arrange a research article in this order: title page, abstract, keywords, introduction, materials and methods, results and discussion, conclusion, acknowledgements, funding, conflicts of interest, references.
  • Write scientific names of plants and microorganisms in italics.

Title page

  • Give the full title without abbreviations. Keep it short and informative.
  • Give the full names and affiliations of all authors, and mark the corresponding author with an asterisk.
  • Give the corresponding author's postal address, telephone number and email address.
  • Supply the title page as a separate file, so that the main text can be reviewed without the authors' names.

Abstract and keywords

The abstract is a single paragraph of no more than 200 words. Give four to six keywords below it.

Main text

  • Introduction: a concise account of the background, with the relevant earlier work cited.
  • Materials and methods: enough detail for the work to be repeated. Name important materials and equipment with the manufacturer, and state the statistical methods and the level of significance used.
  • Results and discussion: state the main results clearly, with tables and figures where needed, and relate them to what is already known. The two parts may be separate or combined.
  • Conclusion: summarise the principal findings and their wider implications without repeating the abstract.

Tables and figures

  • Number tables with Arabic numerals in the order they are cited, each with a short title above it.
  • Number figures in the order they are cited, each with a caption below it that explains what the figure shows.
  • Supply images at 300 dpi or higher, as JPEG, TIFF or PDF files.

References

  • Cite sources in the text by author and year, for example (Hanson, 1980), (Hanson and Langmuir, 1978) or (Ashwal et al., 1998).
  • List all cited sources alphabetically at the end under the heading References.
  • For a journal article give: authors, year, article title, journal name, volume, issue and pages. For a book give: authors, year, title, edition and publisher.
  • Give a DOI wherever one exists.
